Niche Structure

URC

This redundant church in Southsea was struggling to sell. A scheme was designed to create nine new dwellings both within the main space of the church and in the adjoining rooms to the rear. A new circulation tower was inserted on the northern elevation to access the two levels of entrance to the new dwellings.

The scheme was devised to minimise impact on the attractive church building and retain its original character. As the building is situated in a flood risk area a series of ramps were devised internally in order to create ‘dry’ access.

Planning permission was successfully achieved and the building duly converted.
